Artistic Director/ Conductor

Nancy "Tru" Mizzell (she/her)

Nancy "Tru" Mizzell may look very serious in the photo you see, but she is a musician that just wants to open new doors to the world of classical music.  As a black, queer, female she knows what it's like to be over looked for being who you are. She hopes Tru' Time Orchestra will be a space where no one is over looked and all music is given a chance.

Tru was recently selected as a recipient of the first-ever William Grant Still Initiative scholarship through the Conductors Retreat at Medomak. While at the Conductors Retreat at Medomak, she was coached in the art of conducting by Grammy nominated conductor, Kenneth  Kiesler, and continues to receive his mentorship. Additional music experience includes serving as Music Director of Trooper (Chapel Guantanamo Bay,Cuba), serving as a multi instrumentalist in the Florida Army Band, violinist in the Tampa Bay Symphony, and several years of instrumental and vocal classroom teaching. Tru currently serves as Music Director at Allendale UMC and Cover Conductor for the Pinellas Civic Park Orchestra.
